TherapyCharts works hard to keep up to date with new federal rules like the FTC Red Flag rules (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/articles/art11.shtm), and this sometimes means we add mandatory fields designed to help clinicians follow laws they may not be aware of. If you ever allow patients to delay payment of co-pays, deductibles, or private pay rates you actually classify as a creditor and must verify identity using a government ID. If you never allow someone to delay payment then this field does not apply to you and you can enter a “case number” for your clinic or a placeholder. Whenever a clinician must complete a form with “dummy” data we recommend to use a string of zeros in this case 000-00-0000.
